On October 30, 2024, Werner Auer from Ennshafen represented the SEANERGY project at the Danube Ports Days in Budapest. This prestigious event, organized by Pro Danube and hosted by the Danube Commission, gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to explore sustainable solutions for inland ports and waterway transport across Europe. Supported by the EU-funded MultiRELOAD, Green Inland Ports Study, SYNERGETICS projects, and the Danube Ports Network, Danube Ports Days emphasized the significance of multimodality, green energy, and digital innovation within the port sector.

The event featured key themes central to the EU’s green transition goals, including the shift towards eco-friendly modes of transportation, emissions reduction, and green energy solutions. In support of these goals, Danube Ports Days 2024 showcased cutting-edge digitalization tools and strategies that are reshaping port operations and enhancing efficiency. Participants highlighted the essential role of ports in the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) and their need for robust connections to other modes of transportation, such as rail and trans-shipment facilities, to ensure a seamless and sustainable freight transport system.

During his presentation, Werner Auer highlighted the SEANERGY project’s commitment to developing clean energy hubs within European ports. The SEANERGY Master Plan, which envisions zero-emission ports that integrate hydrogen, low-carbon fuels, and circular economy practices, aligns closely with the event’s overarching goal of promoting climate-neutral port operations.

A dedicated poster exhibition also showcased key European initiatives, including SEANERGY, furthering dialogue on how ports can support the green transition and contribute to a sustainable freight transport system in Europe.

The event concluded with a Danube Networking Cruise, a social gathering that fostered meaningful connections and discussions around the green transformation of Europe’s transport landscape. This final segment of Danube Ports Days allowed participants to explore collaborative approaches and exchange ideas for tackling emissions, increasing digital efficiency, and advancing sustainable practices in port operations.
