Now Available for Free in 9 Languages

Seanergy Project - Home

The SEANERGY Project is proud to announce the official release of the Port Energy Transition Master Plan, a comprehensive strategy designed to accelerate the decarbonization of ports and promote sustainable growth across the maritime sector. This forward-thinking plan, now available at no cost, is accessible in nine languages and can be downloaded from the SEANERGY Project website.

What is the Port Energy Transition Master Plan?

The Port Energy Transition Master Plan is a key deliverable of the SEANERGY project, developed in collaboration with leading experts in port management, energy, and environmental sustainability. This guide provides a strategic framework for helping ports transition to greener energy sources, reduce their carbon footprints, and enhance overall operational efficiency. The Master Plan outlines actionable solutions to create sustainable energy hubs at ports, positioning them as central players in the clean energy transition.

Key Highlights of the Master Plan:

  • High-Level Vision (Phase 1): This initial phase conceptualizes and sets the strategic direction for transforming EU ports into sustainable energy hubs. It provides an overarching vision for decarbonizing ports, establishing a foundation for future planning and implementation.
  • Master Plan Development (Phase 2): This phase involves the development of a detailed framework tailored to the unique needs of European ports. It includes the integration of sustainable energy solutions, the adoption of new technologies, and enhancements in port efficiency.
  • Implementation and Review (Phase 3): The final phase focuses on executing the strategies and continuously evaluating their effectiveness. This ensures that the objectives of reducing emissions and enhancing sustainability are met, fostering long-term growth in the maritime sector.

This structured, phased approach enables European ports to strategically plan, implement, and optimize their energy transition journeys, regardless of their size or profile. SEANERGY is dedicated to supporting ports and stakeholders in executing these strategies, fostering collaboration and feedback to enhance their effectiveness.

Impact of port emissions

The globalization of industrial and agricultural processes makes maritime transport (#shipping) a fundamental sector of the world economy. Overall, 25% of world-delivered energy consumption is employed for transport. About 75% of this energy is employed for road transport, 12% for shipping, and 12% for air transport (EIA, 2016).
